OrthoVirginia recently opened a new center in Westchester, Virginia to expand its offices. New Ridge Engineering provided the electrical, plumbing, and mechanical engineering for the 80,000-square-foot facility housing a physical therapy gym, four operating rooms, X-ray and MRI rooms, exam spaces, and support areas.
Electrical Design |
The building consists of a 750 kW diesel generator with three transfer switches, 4000A normal power service, and all associated distribution equipment. Support included engaging the utility company early in design to allow for the process of obtaining a long-lead utility transformer before the contractor was fully engaged. New Ridge Engineering helped provide information to release the generator and switchgear early to help the construction schedule, including vendor-suggested design modifications to allow them to be procured within four months.
Plumbing Design |
This project included new water, sprinkler, and irrigation services, as well as treated water systems for the sterile processing department and medical gas systems service for the ASC.
Mechanical Design |
Mechanical Design included packaged rooftop equipment with variable air volume terminal reheat control. The ambulatory surgery center included a specialized air handling unit that contained desiccant humidification features allowing for lower room temperatures without increased humidity. This system was provided with enhanced filtration systems and tracking variable air volume return air systems.
