MWH Family Medicine Residency Clinic

This project consisted of a renovation of a two-story, 13,700-square-foot building into a Graduate Medical Education facility for family medicine to be used for the medical training of graduate students. The building comprises 16 exam spaces, two treatment rooms, an on-site lab, medication rooms, offices, support spaces, and meeting rooms.

Electrical Design |

For the electrical design of this project, custom lighting controls were developed for the meeting rooms to adjust which light fixtures will be controlled based on the open/closed status of the partition walls. The main switchboard was re-used to power an all-new electrical system throughout the scope of the project. In addition, an all-automated LED lighting control system was put in place.

Plumbing Design |

For the plumbing design of this project, all piping was changed to be installed in the plenum space. NRE installed a recirculating hot water loop with natural gas-fired instantaneous water heaters. In addition, a dry pipe sprinkler system was converted into a wet sprinkler system.

Mechanical Design |

The mechanical design of the project included a new HVAC system and a new hydronic heating system with condensing boilers. NRE removed over 15 heat pumps and replaced them with a central VAV RTU system, utilizing a hot water hydronic loop for heating. A natural gas-fired boiler design will allow for future expansion when the remainder of the building gets renovated.
