The project included a new 22,000 square foot greenfield free-standing emergency department, including multiple imaging modalities.
Electrical Design |
The electrical system provided a consolidated electrical room to maximize square footage for patient care and staff spaces. This area housed a 2000A, 480V electrical service with two levels of ground fault protection to serve critical care spaces. Backup power was provided to the facility with a 750kW generator serving four automatic transfer switches to form a Type 1 Essential Electrical System. Indirect lighting was used in corridors to avoid glare and improve the patient experience.
Plumbing Design |
As a new construction project, new water, sanitary, and stormwater services were coordinated and provided for the facility. In addition to the standard sanitary drainage system, a decontamination drainage system was provided along with a 600-gallon holding tank for the washdown showers in the ambulance drop-off area. A Class 2 piped medical gas system consisting of oxygen, medical air, and medical vacuum was also provided to support the patient care areas.
Mechanical Design |
The mechanical design of this project consisted of a rooftop unit and humidifier dedicated to serving the imaging suite, and a dedicated rooftop unit and humidifier serving the emergency department suite. Due to the high amount of exhaust required for emergency department ventilation, an energy recovery ventilator was coupled with the rooftop unit serving the emergency department suite. The airborne infection isolation room was designed with a dedicated exhaust system including low and high exhaust devices. The MRI mechanical design included a dedicated exhaust fan, quench vent, and non-ferrous ductwork and air devices.
