This restaurant conversion project on iconic Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, CA, included the complex addition of a Type 1 grease exhaust hood in the dining area of an existing restaurant, a central element of Churrasco. This required careful planning to reuse existing mechanical systems, ensuring proper air balance and makeup air were provided, while keeping added equipment within the existing electrical service capacity - a critical element in meeting the project's schedule and budget.

Electrical Design |

The electrical design consisted of the re-use of existing electrical equipment in the most economical manner possible. The facility was served by an existing 1000A switchboard that fed several existing panels, and circuits were laid out to minimize new wiring or circuit breaker purchases.

New lighting and controls were included to provide both a comfortable feel for patrons and the energy efficiency required by Title 24.

Plumbing Design |

The plumbing work for this project consisted of modifying the existing bar and back-of-house utilities to serve the updated equipment plan. A new drain and hose bibb were also provided for the added waste enclosure area. Additionally, the existing undersized grease interceptor in the garage below was replaced with a new 100 gpm hydromechanical interceptor to serve the expanded grease waste system.

Mechanical Design |

The mechanical scope on this project included routing new grease and makeup air ductwork for the churrasco hood. Ductwork and new diffusers were added to cool new wine coolers in the main dining area, and an exhaust fan was added to serve the trash room.
